Massage can help to ease muscular aches and pains and also to improve muscular function. As we have previously covered, it is also beneficial in helping to reduce stress levels, therefore in helping the client relax and manage their stress levels they are enabled to feel more in control of their condition and how they wish to manage it.
Aromatherapy treatment would be based on oils to help treat the symptoms - Mainly Analgesic (pain relieving) oils such as Bergamot, Black Pepper, Lavender, Marjoram, Peppermint, Chamomile & Rosemary. The majority of these oils would also help with symptoms such as Anxiety or sleep issues.
Although we would not choose to use Peppermint or Rosemary in those with symptoms of Insomnia, we would use in the case of a client who is struggling to wake up fully on a morning.
Some sufferers of Fibromyalgia experience issues with the digestive system - Again - depending on the specific symptom, different oils would be used to suit - Although in this case some of the oils can be cross-referenced as some of the oils used to treat constipation can also be used to treat Loose bowels - as we need to relax the muscles if the loose bowels are caused by an over-stimulated digestive tract.
Dietary changes would include eliminating "inflammatory" foods such as Wheat, Yeast, Sugar, caffeine & Dairy plus the Nightshade family of Tomatoes, peppers & Potatoes.
With reflexology we would focus on the areas most commonly causing issues to the client, alongside any areas that may have been highlighted during the initial consultation (& subsequent feedback or discussion) that may be contributing to stress and or pain levels. Common areas to focus on would be the brain, Endocrine system, Digestive system & Muscular-skeletal system.
As always, if you have any concerns, please see your GP for advice. Individual cautions apply, please ask your therapist for details.
If you suffer from this condition, I would be interested to hear from you, to give me feedback on the above and more information about your own personal symptoms which will allow me to provide a better service in the future as I will gain more knowledge about the condition. Many thanks xx
